We have been busy!

Math Shape Challenge!

This group of students were given a challenge of making a house with only 40 shapes...there also had to be 10 square windows!

This set of students were given two shape challenges. One was to make a square using 7 shapes, and another a rectangle with 7 shapes. It took a lot of discussion on amount of sides each shape has and ways to form the shapes together.

The finished 40 shape house with 10 windows :)

Welcome to the North Pole!

A sneak peak at our Wreath project...more to come!

Sometimes we get so busy in the Superstar room that we need a good nap!

How to Catch a Turkey!

Superstars share ways on How to Catch a Turkey!

We finished up making our wooden boats in our early learning collaborative time. Students added weight and air to their boats to try to either move or sink them!

The day before Thanksgiving we had our very own Seabury  Thanksgiving. Below the Superstars bake over 60 mini muffins for our school feast!

We started using unifix cubes to measure things around the room. All of the students worked together to build a "snake" across the floor of the classroom. They then estimated how many cubes that they thought it took. We discussed that a straight line would be a faster way to get from point A to point B, rather then a curved line. One student said "It is like bending you knees, you are shorter when you bend, and taller when you are straight!"

Election Time

The Superstars and their Flat City

In math we have been working hard on getting more hands on activities happening. Below are students working groups and counting pumpkin seeds by 5's and 10's.

Once each group counted their seeds, we added up to total number....our small pumpkin had 581 seeds!

While discussing elections, presidents, and electoral college numbers the students wanted to create their very own Oval Offices!

On Election Day students got the chance to vote for a new Head of School, Secretary, and for our country President!

Do not forget that Thursday is our Field trip to Pioneer Farms!

Elections, Experts, and Math, Oh My!

We had the Octopi and the Creators come in to try and get our Superstars to vote for their political parties of Seabury!! Students REALLY enjoy having them in the classroom :)

This past week we had Tacoma Fire Safety, and Tacoma Power visiting in the classroom. The students brainstormed interview questions to ask each Community Expert.

During our collaborative time with the Sharks and Ladybugs we have been discussing different aspects of water. Here students are acting as Scientists and making predictions on four different water containers. One having just water, one with glitter/water, one with water/oil, and another with colored water. We asked students to use their five senses to describe what they were seeing, hearing, smelling, etc.

Over the last week the Superstars have been learning about the different American symbols. We have learned about the American Flag, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, and the Bald Eagle so far!! They are loving this hands on activity and learning all about their country.

Here students are practicing the Pledge of Allegiance.

Making elaborate patterns on their own!
