Exploring Math

Students have started using Base Ten blocks to count by 1's, and 10's. We used the blocks to represent different numbers, such as 81, 31, 13, etc. This really allowed the students to visually see a number they were representing, as well as introduced them to counting by 10's.

During math centers a few students get the chance to do Smart Board math in partners.

Being Creative

We started exploring our math manipulatives this week, we used pattern blocks and Cuisenaire Rods to create a circus creature. Students were using many different shapes to build the creature and then counted up the pieces of each manipulative they used. This taught them area, addition, as well as building number sentences! The Sharks joined us in the fun...and all students just had a blast :)

Playing with math manipulatives is a huge part of understanding many different math concepts!

Superstars also learned a lot about being a friend, and different ways to express this.
